Tiger-Crane Set

Lehrinhalte:

  • The Tiger-Crane Double Form Set Set
  • Learning the combat applications with short combat sequences
  • Tiger Claw and No-Shadow Kicks
  • Training of internal force
  • Philosophy and theory
  • Questions and answers

Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit is going to teach the legendary Tiger-Crane Double Form Set for the first time as a course. It is the first set that he has learned about 60 years ago from his first master, Uncle Righteousness.

About the set he says himself:

The 36-Pattern Tiger-Crane Set is one of my favorites. It is my first love, introducing me to the joy and wonderful benefits of kungfu. It includes two of my specialties, tiger-claw and no-shadow kick, which helped me to defeat real masters, though I didn't have to use these specialties often.

The form is a pattern set, consisting of individual patterns. To illustrate the special applications of the patterns, Sifu will teach a short combat sequence for each of the patterns.

There are different versions of the Tiger-Crane set. A very popular one is practiced in the Hoong Ka Kung Fu of Wong Fei Hoong. It consists of 108 patterns and was taught by Sifu before. The 72 pattern version of Ng Mui is also in Sifu’s repertoire. He himself prefers the short version with 36 patterns (like me). This one is the crystallization and it even contains more typical tiger and crane patterns than the 108 pattern version that is based on Lohan Kung Fu.

Many of the marvellous applications of the sophisticated techniques are not obvious. Sifu will guide us to the depths of their use.

Over the years, Sifu has made a few small modifications to the set. Here is the current version that participants should be proficient at with good form before the course.

Hungry Tiger Snatches Goat

Shaolin Thirty Six Specific Techniques

Lehrinhalte:

  • 36 classical techniques of Shaolin Kung Fu for self-defence
  • Training of the combat applications against punches, kicks, felling and gripping techniques
  • A set for later practice and rememberance of the individual techniques
  • Philosophy and theory
  • Questions and answers

The 36 Specific Techniques were compiled by grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit in the 1980s. This selection of classical patterns, partially taken from the Tiger-Crane set and the Cross-Road at Four Gates set, covers the defence of various attacks. No matter if it is punches, different kicks, felling or gripping, the 36 Specific Techniques provide an answer, even in seemingly hopeless situations.

Later Sifu developed the combat sequences for Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan we still practice to this day. Students of Shaolin Wahnam that have completed the systematic syllabus are generally prepared for any combat situation, because the combat sequences impart principles and effective techniques to defend against various attacks. Nevertheless, it can be very helpful to have even more suitable, specific alternatives for particular attacks. Therefore, Sifu has agreed to revise the 36 Specific Techniques and teach them at a course in Vienna for the first time. He himself says that this is going to be a historic course and he will be asked for repetition many times.

Here is a video edit of material from the 1980 to provide a first impression of the techniques. The set shown will be refined at the course to represent the techniques more clearly.

Participants should know the basic Kung Fu stances. Therefore, this includes all students of Shaolin Wahnam who have completed the first level in Shaolin Kung Fu or Tai Chi Chuan.
